Today, we would like to introduce a case where we installed a liquid leak detection system at a caustic soda storage facility for the Jeju fish farming cooperative.

This project was carried out for an outdoor caustic soda (NaOH) storage tank operated by the Jeju fish farming cooperative.

It has been a while since we last shared an outdoor tank leak detector installation case, so we are glad to present this project.

We recently traveled by ferry across the sea to Jeju Island.

This site is operated by a cooperative supporting aquaculture and fish farming in Jeju.

Why Caustic Soda (NaOH) and Leak Detection Are Needed in Aquaculture Facilities

At facilities that support or directly operate seawater or freshwater aquaculture systems, such as the Jeju fish farming cooperative, caustic soda is commonly used for the following reasons.

• Caustic soda (NaOH) dissolves in water and forms a strong alkaline solution, so it is used to neutralize water and raise pH levels when the acidity of aquaculture water drops below the proper range.

• Caustic soda (NaOH) also provides strong cleaning and disinfection performance, making it useful for hygiene management in aquaculture facilities.

Yoohantech’s Customized Leak Detection Solution for Outdoor Tanks

Yoohantech built an optimized leak detection system by considering both the environmental conditions around the outdoor storage tank, such as temperature and humidity, and the chemical properties of caustic soda (NaOH), especially its corrosiveness.

1. Sensor selection and placement:

• Chemically resistant sensor for caustic soda (NaOH): To prevent any performance degradation even after long-term exposure to leaked caustic soda, special-material leak detectors were installed at key points below the tank and inside the containment area, helping block the spread of secondary contamination from the start.

2. Real-time monitoring controller (receiver panel):

• A central controller was installed to integrate and manage signals from multiple sensors.
• The system is designed to detect even minor liquid contact immediately and issue visual and audible alarms at once, establishing a rapid response system.

Now, let’s take a look at the actual leak detector installation work.

As shown in the photos, our specialist team carried out the work carefully to maximize the completeness and long-term reliability of the system.

Rather than simply installing sensors, we also applied PVC high-piping as the connection piping for the leak detection system to ensure chemical resistance in the field.

This was a professional design decision based on the chemical characteristics of the site and the need for long-term system stability.

Because the tank stores caustic soda (NaOH), PVC high-piping was used to prevent corrosion of the piping system.

Features of the Electronic Leak Point Sensor “YHSP-SAR”

As shown in the photos, the electronic leak point sensor “YHSP-SAR” was installed on the PVC high-piping system.

This sensor is specially designed to detect specific chemical leaks rather than ordinary water.

The main reason we selected this sensor was its excellent performance and reliability.

• Precise detection of alkaline substances: This sensor was installed specifically to detect leaks of alkaline chemicals. If the liquid flowing through the tank or piping is alkaline, the sensor reacts immediately when leakage occurs.
• Optimized for inorganic solvent detection: “YHSP-SAR” is also designed to detect inorganic solvent components accurately, making it highly useful in environments handling sensitive chemicals.
• No reaction to rainwater or ordinary water: One of its most important advantages is that the sensor does not respond to rainwater or normal water at all. It reacts only to target chemical leaks that actually need to be detected, greatly reducing the risk of false alarms.
• Excellent durability and waterproof performance: This product is a fully waterproof model with excellent durability and water resistance.

Thanks to its fully waterproof design, there is no need to worry about unnecessary false alarms caused by rain, even when tanks and piping are installed outdoors.

Installation Features of the Outdoor Leak Detector Receiver (YH-100L)

For this site, we installed the warning lamp type receiver “YH-100L”.

Because this was an outdoor installation, we applied a customized solution that considered both durability and visibility.

1. Protected safely in a stainless steel enclosure:

• The receiver was securely mounted inside a stainless steel enclosure resistant to weather changes and external impact. This protects the receiver from rain, wind, and dust, helping it operate stably for a long period of time.

2. 105 dB high-output warning beacon:

• To ensure that anyone nearby can recognize the situation immediately when a leak occurs, a 105 dB high-decibel warning beacon was installed on top of the stainless steel enclosure. 👀⚡️ It provides a powerful alarm through both sound and light for fast response.

🔋 Safety monitoring that stays on even during a power outage

Although the internal view is not fully shown here, all Yoohantech leak detector receivers include an important standard feature.

• 📢 Built-in backup battery as standard! Even in the event of an unexpected power failure, the system does not stop.
