[Case Study] Sulfuric Acid & Caustic Soda Tank Leak Detection Installation at a Resource Recycling Center in Gumi, Korea | YHSP-SAR for Acid/Alkali + YH-100L for Outdoor False-Alarm Prevention
Case study of leak detector installation for sulfuric acid and caustic soda tanks at a resource recycling center in Gumi, Gyeongbuk. Yoohantech YHSP-SAR sensor and YH-100L receiver applied. Outdoor acid/alkali leak detection solution designed to prevent false alarms caused by rainwater. Non-explosion-proof area installation using GW waterproof flexible conduit and SUS enclosure. Safety equipment for chemical safety compliance.

📌 Post Summary

This field report covers the installation of a Yoohantech leak detection system in the sulfuric acid and caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) tank area of a resource recycling center in Gumi, Gyeongbuk. By applying the YHSP-SAR sensor, which fundamentally blocks false alarms caused by rainwater in outdoor environments, along with the durable SUS enclosure receiver (YH-100L), the site secured safe operation for its odor removal process. From installation optimized for a non-explosion-proof area to a backup battery system for power outage preparedness, take a look at this complete safety solution.

Hello! This is Assistant Yoo from Yoohantech, where safety and environmental protection come first. 👷‍♂️

The first month of 2026 has already passed, and now February has begun. The winter cold is still sharp, but Yoohantech’s passion for protecting safety on site never cools down.

Today, we would like to share a real field story from Gumi, Gyeongbuk, where we visited “0000 Resource Recycling Center”. We installed a sulfuric acid and caustic soda leak detection system there. Let’s take a look at why hazardous chemical detection is essential at a resource recycling center and what kind of customized solution Yoohantech provided.

1. Site Overview: Why Are Strong Acid and Strong Alkali Needed at a Resource Recycling Center?

This site was a resource recycling center that processes livestock manure and produces biogas. Some people may wonder, “Why are hazardous chemical tanks needed at a manure treatment plant?” The main reason is the process of odor removal (deodorization) and gas purification.

  • Why sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) is used:
It is used to neutralize ammonia, an alkaline gas that is one of the main odor sources generated during manure treatment.
  • Why sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is used:
It is used to neutralize hydrogen sulfide, an acidic gas with a rotten egg smell.

In other words, these chemicals are essential for creating a cleaner environment, but if leaked, they can become extremely dangerous to both workers and the surrounding environment. That is why Yoohantech responded quickly to help detect even a possible leak as fast as possible.

2. Applied Products and System Configuration: Ignore Rainwater, Detect Chemicals Only

This site was a fully outdoor tank area, so the key challenge was a battle against rain. If the system triggered false alarms whenever it rained, it would be impossible to respond properly in a real emergency.

🎯 Sensor
YHSP-SAR (for Acid and Alkali)
A smart sensor that does not react to rainwater or ordinary water, but responds immediately only to hazardous chemicals
📢 Receiver
YH-100L (Beacon Lamp Type)
Powerful 105 dB alarm, SUS enclosure, and built-in backup battery for reliable warning in any situation

Although the weather was bitterly cold, our installation team continued the work with full focus while following on-site safety rules with absolute care.

This zone was a non-explosion-proof area, but when it comes to durability, there was no room for compromise. Instead of standard conduit, we adopted heavy-duty GW waterproof flexible conduit. It protects the sensor line against impact and moisture, helping ensure stable operation even in rough outdoor conditions. 🛡️

“Any leaked liquid eventually flows to the lowest point.”
Based on this principle, we selected the drain pit, where leaked chemicals would ultimately collect, as the optimal monitoring point and installed the YHSP-SAR sensor there.

This product is built with smart technology that accurately distinguishes between rainwater and hazardous chemicals such as acids and alkalis. Even in an outdoor site exposed to heavy rainfall, it remains silent in rainwater and immediately triggers an alarm the moment hazardous liquid reaches it. No worries about rain. Zero false alarms.

And here it is, securely installed on site, the YH-100L leak detection receiver. Inside, it is equipped with Yoohantech’s core detection module, the YHSM-04S-AR, which sharply distinguishes water from hazardous chemicals.

💪 Yoohantech Specifications Built for Harsh Outdoor Conditions
  • SUS stainless steel enclosure: Strong protection against rain, wind, and corrosion
  • 105 dB high-output beacon alarm: Easy to notice even in noisy plant environments
  • Built-in backup battery: 💡 Even during natural disasters or power outages, the system continues monitoring safety
